Toccata was written while I was at Berklee College of Music in 1980. I remember going to see a senior recital and being disappointed that the music didn't have enough of an edge. I returned to the practice rooms and wrote the majority of this piece in one sitting.
In 2003 I received Garritan Personal Orchestra and was looking for something to use to exercise it. Remembering Toccata, I pulled out the piano score and orchestrated it.
