Table For Two - 2007

This was a student film that I scored in 2007, using a real orchestra. My part of the film was under 4 minutes, but I "post-scored" it (the animation was done when I started to write the music). This is very different, and much more difficult, as I had to adjust my timing to make it work. If it were "pre-scored", I would have written the music first, and then the film would have been created to the music.

In order to make the music fit, I had to find a tempo that "worked" with the scene, and then I had to change the time signatures to make it work. These were short cues (all under 1 minute), but in one I had to change time signatures 21 times in 29 measures. The real trick is to make these kinds of changes, but not have the music sound really choppy. If you listen to the cues with and without the video, hopefully you won't start notice the shifting time signatures.

The film itself is a touching story about a young artist who receives a letter from her "real" dad stating that he'd like to meet her at a cafe at a specific day and time. As she waits, she recalls the times she's spent with the dad that adopted her, taught her how to draw, and was - in reality - her "real" dad.
